Generative AI for Image, Video and Voice: Which to Choose?
Recraft, FLUX, Grok Imagine, ElevenLabs, Voxtral: which generative AI for visuals, videos and voices? Measured 2026 costs and speeds, and pitfalls to avoid.
An AI-generated image costs less than one cent and comes out in two seconds. A synthetic voice reads a sentence in one second. As of October 2026, the price of generating media has become almost zero. What costs money now is choosing the right tool, sorting through the results and avoiding the visual that hurts your brand.
At a glance
- Image: Recraft V4.1 Flash is the cheapest ($0.007) and the fastest (2 s) according to OpenRouter.
- Video: $0.24 per six-second clip with Grok Imagine Video 1.5 Lite; 45 seconds with Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash.
- Voice: Eleven Flash v2.5 (ElevenLabs) responds in 1 second; Voxtral Mini TTS (Mistral) is the cheapest.
- The cost of generation is negligible: judge a tool on its quality on your briefs and its terms for commercial use.

Which generative media AI models are compared in 2026?
OpenRouter evaluates four media families. Each output is judged against the request, then billed per unit.
| Media | What the test requires | Models tested | Cheapest | Fastest |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Image | Depth, orientation, object counting, text inside the image | 53 | Recraft V4.1 Flash, $0.007 | Recraft V4.1 Flash, 2 s |
| Video | Six-second clips, same length and same resolution for all | 26 | Grok Imagine Video 1.5 Lite, $0.24 | Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash, 45 s |
| Voice | One sentence per voice: are the words correct, is the requested intonation respected? | 31 | Voxtral Mini TTS (Mistral), $0.000 | Eleven Flash v2.5 (ElevenLabs), 1 s |
| Memes | Edit an image or animate it according to a brief | 60 | K3 Edit (Krea), $0.010 | FLUX.2 Klein 4B (Black Forest Labs), 7 s |

How do you choose an AI image generator for marketing?
OpenRouter's image test targets known weaknesses: counting objects, respecting an orientation, writing legible text inside the image. These are exactly the flaws that make a visual unusable in marketing and communications.
Four criteria to choose:
- Text inside the image. If your visuals contain slogans or prices, test this first: it is the most fragile point.
- Brand consistency. Can you enforce your colors, your style and your logo from one image to the next?
- Commercial usage rights. Read the terms of the plan you pay for. Free plans often restrict commercial use.
- Editing. A tool that modifies a specific area (background, product, text) saves more time than a tool that regenerates everything.
Unit price is no longer a criterion: at less than one cent per image, it is your marketing team's time that costs money.
Is AI-generated video ready for business?
For short clips, yes. A six-second video costs from $0.24 and comes out in under a minute with the fastest models. That is enough for an animated social media visual, a transition or a presentation background.
For a brand film, a product demo or a training video, AI helps with the storyboard and illustration shots, but it does not replace a real shoot. Characters and gestures remain unstable from one shot to the next.
Synthetic voice or voice agent: what is the difference?
A synthetic voice reads a text. A voice agent holds a conversation: it understands the request, checks your tools, answers and takes action. OpenRouter's voice benchmark measures the first building block; a phone reception service needs the whole thing.
| Need | Suitable tool |
|---|---|
| Voice-over for a video, narration of a training module | Text-to-speech (ElevenLabs, Mistral Voxtral...) |
| Answering customer calls, qualifying calls, booking appointments | Complete voice agent |
For a voice agent, four criteria matter more than the tone of the voice: latency (beyond one second, the conversation becomes painful), languages, the ability to act during the call and integration with your phone system. The GENIAL phone assistant answers 24/7 by phone and in writing, with under 800 ms of latency, in more than 50 languages. It acts during the call (calendar, CRM, ticket, order), plugs into your existing phone system and transfers the call with the context already summarized when a human needs to take over.
What risks should you manage before generating media with AI?
- Impersonation: never generate the voice or face of a real person without their written consent.
- Transparency: the European AI Act requires certain generated content to be labeled, in particular realistic content that could deceive. Plan for a disclosure notice.
- Unapproved tools: your teams are probably already using free generators with personal accounts. Govern them rather than banning them: that is the challenge of Shadow AI.
Where should you start?
Start from a recurring need (social media visuals, an overloaded phone reception) and test two tools for two weeks on your real briefs. Frequently asked questions
How much does an AI-generated image cost in 2026?
According to the benchmarks published by OpenRouter on October 14, 2026, the cheapest image costs $0.007 with Recraft V4.1 Flash, generated in 2 seconds. A six-second video costs at least $0.24 with Grok Imagine Video 1.5 Lite. The cost of generation has become negligible: the real cost is the time spent selecting and retouching.
Which text-to-speech AI should you choose for professional use?
As of October 2026, ElevenLabs' Eleven Flash v2.5 is the fastest text-to-speech model measured by OpenRouter (1 second), and Mistral's Voxtral Mini TTS is the cheapest. For a phone reception service, latency and conversation handling matter more than the voice alone: you need a complete voice agent, not just a voice.
Can you use AI-generated images in your marketing and communications?
Yes, under three conditions: check the tool's terms for commercial use, do not imitate a real person or a protected brand, and label generated content when the AI Act requires it, especially realistic content that could mislead. Have every visual reviewed: text inside the image and fine details remain weak points.
Why don't image and video benchmarks give a quality score?
The quality of an image or a video depends heavily on taste and intended use, which makes it hard to sum up as a percentage. The 2026 OpenRouter benchmarks therefore mostly publish cost and speed for media. To judge quality, test two or three tools yourself on your own briefs.
